22 Things You Might NOT Know About Sound Baths
The gong makes things move. It always has for me. Farts happen. {it’s a release folks, release is good}. I once farted while playing the gong at a sound bath and well, “the gong made me do it as it always does.”
Avoid eating a huge meal, spicy bean chili is probably a “no.” Give time to digest.
Snoring happens. You’ll get a gentle bump if it’s too loud.
Thoughts happen. Thinking never stops but it might slow down.
Thoughts can come up from your childhood, memories, dreams, fears, worries, nostalgia, your past, your future
It’s not BAD if you think; you might need to think in order to let shit go.
It’s okay if you feel “fidgety or need to move.” Again, your mind might be busy, your body might feel restless and that’s all OK. You can rotate, move, lie on your side, belly, and sit up. You can even “look” and see what’s happening.
You might fall asleep. You might also be awake AF.
You might feel like you’re “glued to the earth” and deeply relax.
You might get really emotional and cry, have mascara running down your face and puffy eyes afterwards. {Note: loud emoting -crying, whaling, screaming, moaning} is not allowed.
Some noises might be annoying AF and bother you. Some sounds/instruments might be annoying and even irritate you.
You won’t like every sound, that’s OK. A particular sound might bother you because it’s “working.”
External noises happen. Phones ring. Cars drive by. Babies cry, children laugh, dogs bark, cell phones ring, people talk. It’s all sound and vibration and the best thing to do is “let it be.”
You might NOT feel relaxed.
You might feel like you leave your body.
You might be in pain, your broken pinky toe, back pain, headache all might be targeted by the sound and it’s “normal” for lack of better words because sound goes to where it needs to go.
Your skin is like a giant ear. You skin hears sound and feels sound. This is why you might “feel” it throughout your entirebody, but also because we’re made of 70% water and sound is energy. Energy + water combine well and things “move” when sounds are played. Meaning, you might feel your kidneys.
You’re allowed to get up if feeling uncomfortable, like a sound is too loud or you feel anxious.
Healing is hard and it’s typically not comfortable. That means every sound bath will be different and you might not be blissed out of your mind drooling on your mat.
You might have a huge healing dump.
Sound Baths are kind of like therapy sessions minus the talking part.
You might have mascara running down your face, puffy eyes and feel exhausted afterwards.
Show up for yourself.
Do the work and you’ll reap the rewards.
Healing looks different to everyone.
